Thursday 7/18: Taking the very reasonable position that Halloween is too glorious a holiday to happen only once a year, this show brings you Halloween in July at Brooklyn’s spooky House of Wax Bar (just one floor below the Alamo Drafthouse theatres), with comics Christi Chiello(Comedy Central’s Roast Battle, MTV’s Girl Code, TruTV, stellar solo show It’s Christi, B*tch!, co-host of Battle of the Divas and White Chocolate), Sydnee Washington (Conan O’Brien, MTV2’s Vidiots, co-host of podcast The Unofficial Expert), Marie Faustin (co-host of 99.5 FM’s Tall Tales in the Big City and podcast The Unofficial Expert; former host of Oxygen’s Very Real Talk; VH1, TruTV, MTV’s Girl Code and Vidiots), Molly Austin(TruTV’s Late Night Snack) performing stand-up, plus music from band Free The Mind, hosted by Kelsey Caine (The New York Times; Miss New York State finalist; for a video sample, please click here) & Martin Urbano (Jimmy Kimmel) and produced by Jamie Rabinovitch: Summertime Halloween Comedy Show (7:30 pm, $15, Brooklyn’s House of Wax Bar at 445 Albee Square West, 4th Floor—take the 2/3 subway to Hoyt Street)
Hey New Yorkers, come join us in the basement of an East Village bar! It’s not as creepy as it sounds – I swear!
Down in the basement of the Sing Sing Ave A, below the karaoke bar is Casual Town, a weekly stand-up show. The witticisms of Casual Town cover the little quirky intimacies of everyday life, whether it’s the pursuit of getting laid by a good man, surviving awkward dinners with traditionalist parents, or hunting for that right therapist.
Jamie began her production career with the show @aka_comedy, a bi-monthy show where an all-female cast of comedians riff on a shared theme. After only a few months she was asked to produce another comedy show, @casualtownshow at Sing Sing on Ave A. Each week features different comics that you may have seen on Conan, The Tonight Show, Hulu, etc. In addition, she’ll be producing @kelseylcainein her show "Kelsey Caine's Graduation Comedy Gala" at Carolines on Broadway, featuring stand-up by Josh Gondelman (Last Week Tonight), Kate Willett (Comedy Central, Netflix), Martin Urbano (Jimmy Kimmel Live), And many more renowned comedians. In addition, she produces a weekly show, Old Man Hustle, every Tuesday night at 8. 😅😅😅 Somehow on top of this impressive resume she also found the time to graduate McGill University with a Bachelors in psychology, and to graduate from the New School with a Masters in Creative Writing. Her favorite quote is “Don't beat yourself up at the beginning for not already being at the end." To her, sustainability means “putting in the effort to keep something maintained and re-usable,” and considering how she is somehow able to maintain a schedule as busy as that and still come out shining, we’ll gladly listen to her advice any day of the week. Rock on! 😍 😍 😍
Oh, and if she could be granted a wish, it would be to master sneezing with her eyes open. Kinda just to prove she could.
New York Times contributor and soon-to-be New School MFA graduate Kelsey Caine welcomes fellow comedians to the stage at Carolines to poke fun at commencement and all the weirdness that goes along with it. On the bill: Josh Gondelman, Mitra Jouhari, Kate Willett, Martin Urbano, Reformed Whores and Sonia Denis.
Comedy shows can be found all throughout the city, but rarely do you find an affordable show as authentic and fun as Casual Town. This weekly stand-up show is hosted, produced, and starred by a powerhouse comedy crew and really gives "underground comedy" a whole new meaning. Casual Town takes place every Thursday in the basement of the unique and eclectic East Village karaoke bar Sing Sing Ave.A, which serves $4 beer and well drinks and $3 well shots until 9pm. If you’re feeling extra feisty, you can pay $2 to sing karaoke at the bar for all of your fellow happy hour dwellers to enjoy.
Serve your tackiest, campiest Halloween look at this spooky summertime stand-up show at the Alamo's fabulous gauche House of Wax bar. Hosts Kelsey Caine and Martin Urbano and producer Jamie Rabinovitch welcome some of our all-time favorite performers to the bar, including Marie Faustin, Sydnee Washington, Christi Chiello, Molly Austin and Marcia Belsky and her band, Free the Mind.
After graduating from McGill University, the rising Montreal star Jamie Rabinovitch moved to New York City to pursue a Masters in Creative Writing (Fiction) at The New School ’17. Rabinovitch currently produces stand-up comedy shows in Manhattan and Brooklyn.
This stellar weekly stand-up show, hosted by Albert Kirchner, Evan Morrison and Jane Harrison and produced by Jamie Rabinovitch, costs a five spot and goes down in a private room in an East Village karaoke bar. This crew knows some of the city's finest stand-ups, so count on an excellent show on the regular.
‘SUMMERTIME HALLOWEEN COMEDY SHOW’ at House of Wax (July 18, 8 p.m.). Your eyes do not deceive you: We are still technically in the dog days of summer, but Kelsey Caine and Martin Urbano are throwing Halloween lovers a bone at this off-season event with a spooky theme. The lineup includes the scarily funny Sydnee Washington and Marie Faustin, the hosts of “The Unofficial Expert” podcast, along with Christi Chiello and others. Dig those costumes out of the back of your closet and show up in character for a chance to win a prize.
